Unbuilt Disney - Disneyland Australia, Part 1

by The Disney Dish Podcast with Jim Hill Media

Hey folks - Len here.

This is my favorite story out of all of the "Unbuilt Disney" research we did.

As we all know, Sydney, Australia, hosted the 2000 Summer Olympics. It takes a long time and a lot of money to build the roads, stadiums, and hotels needed to host the Olympics. To make sure they could re-use all of this infrastructure, the Australians proposed building a Disney theme park nearby. This is that story.

There's so much to talk about here that we've separated it into multiple shows. This show, part 1, uses the actual emails and letters between the Australians, Disney, and Buzz Price, to create interest in the project. And we go over the concepts for the first 3 Aussie-themed rides.

One of the emails we read from Buzz Price's archives contain profanity. It's a frank discussion around the financial performance of the 2000 Olympics.
